Areas of Practice

  • Dissolution of Marriage: Severance of the marital status; "divorce"
  • Custody/Visitation: Parenting plans for children during and after divorce
  • Child Support: Calculation per child of support obligations from one parent to another
  • Spousal Support: Amount and duration of support to an ex-spouse, sometimes called “alimony.”
  • High-Asset Property Division: Valuation, characterization [separate or community], and allocation of property
  • Property Work-Outs: Creative ways to divide property
  • Restraining Orders: To prevent domestic violence to spouses or children
  • Enforcement of Orders: Follow up to ensure that orders of support, custody, etc. are followed
  • Domestic Violence: May involve restraining orders and/or limitations on custody and visitation
  • Mediation: We can act as mediator to enable spouses to amicably work out all issues without going to court
  • Pre-Nuptial Agreements: In advance of marriage, determine what will happen in the event of divorce
  • Post-Nuptial Agreements: More difficult, but may alter what the law would otherwise impose in the event of divorce
  • Legal Separation: Virtually the same as a divorce on all issues, except that the parties remain technically married
  • Modification of Orders: After judgment is entered and the divorce is final, some of the court’s orders may need to be changed if circumstances change.
  • Paternity: Support, visitation, and custody may all depend on the legal definition of paternity.
